CCMA Adds Two New Board Members

We are pleased to announce the following individuals who have been selected to serve as members of the CCMA Executive Board, effective February 1, 2018:

Dr. Patricia A. Whitely


Dr. Patricia A. Whitely has been the Vice President for Student Affairs at the University of Miami since 1997. Prior to her appointment, she was Director of Student Life at the University of Miami from 1994 to 1997. She also served from 1982 to 1994 at the University of Miami as a Residence Coordinator, Assistant Director of Residence Halls, and Associate Director of Residence Halls.

Dr. Whitely is an Adjunct Faculty Member in the Higher Education Administration program in the Department of Educational and Psychological Studies in the School of Education and Human Development at the University of Miami. She has served on the National Association of Student Personnel Administrator’s (NASPA) Foundation Board, is a frequent presenter for the NASPA Alice Manicur Symposium and has served on the NASPA Editorial Board and NASPA Region III Committee. Dr. Whitely served as Chair of the NASPA Board of Directors for 2014-2015.

Dr. Whitely has been honored with numerous awards by the student and academic communities at the University of Miami. In 2012, the University of Miami Student Government Executive Board honored her by naming a new award entitled the “Patricia A. Whitely Unsung Hero Award”. In 2017, the Faculty Senate honored her with the James W. McLamore Outstanding Service and Leadership Award for her countless contributions to the University community.

NASPA Region III awarded her the “John Jones Award” for Outstanding Performance as a Senior Student Affairs Professional in 2012. She is also the recipient of the 2013 NASPA Scott Goodnight Award for Outstanding Performance as a Senior Student Affairs Officer, the highest award in her profession, as well as the recipient of the 2009 NASPA Pillar of the Profession.

Dr. Whitely has always played a pivotal role with the Catholic Campus Ministry program at the University of Miami.  She recently worked with the Archdioceses of Miami to advocate for UM’s first Catholic Chaplain, appointed in 2017.  Dr. Whitely was very involved in the Catholic Campus Ministry at St. John’s University as an undergraduate and worked as a part-time Campus Minister in her early years at the University of Miami.  The Catholic Campus Ministry Association (CCMA) announced the selection of Dr. Whitely to serve as a member of the CCMA Executive Board, effective February 1, 2018.

Dr. Whitely received her bachelor’s degree in Business Management and Theology from St. John’s University, her master’s degree in Student Personnel Services from the University of South Carolina, and her doctorate in Higher Education Leadership from the University of Miami.

Carlos de Quesada

Continuing his 25+ years of business, managerial and finance work, in October 2011, Carlos founded VeraCruz Advisory, LLC; a professional services firm focused on serving non-profit institutions by providing financial and business (enterprise) practice consulting services.  Professional service areas include mission-based strategic consulting, special projects, financial transaction structuring and execution support, Board level organizational governance assessment, budgeting, financial projection/model development, cash flow scenario analyses, asset-mapping/capital planning and integration of revenue-generating and expense activities.  The firm and its associates have originated, structured and closed more than $850 million in financings and interest rate derivatives for both for-profit and NFP clients across the U.S.  Carlos is BoardSource® NFP board governance-certified.

Prior to working with NFPs Carlos was a Vice President and minority shareholder at the fastest growing Hispanic-owned company in the U.S., Liberty Power.  Before pursuing his 2005-2007 entrepreneurial path at Liberty Power, Mr. de Quesada had 11 years of New York City-based international banking experience with money-center domestic and international institutions.  

Carlos graduated from the Florida State University in 1987 with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Finance. He served as an officer in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1988-1991.  Following his military service, Carlos earned an M.B.A. in 1993 from the George Washington University in Washington, D.C.

He has served or is active in volunteering activities with non-profit and faith-based organizations including Catholic Charities Diocese of Venice, Florida Board and local school student mentoring.  Current pro bono board service includes serving on the board of an immigration and exile, human services non-profit, CNC (, and Seton Education Partners (  Carlos is a 3rd Degree Knight of Columbus and actively involved, both professionally and personally, with various Catholic organizations including dioceses, colleges, schools and an crisis pregnancy clinic.  Carlos is active in his parish, Christ the King (Sarasota), and was part of its founding Finance Council 2009-2012.  

Born and raised in Miami, Florida, Carlos is a first-generation American of Cuban parents, and is bilingual (English-Spanish).  Though traveling nationally, Carlos resides in Sarasota, Florida with his wife, Cynthia, of 26 years and two teenage children.
