From Evangelical Christian to Catholic Christian

Delray and I began our time at USF Fort Wayne about the same time. He had friends who introduced him to Campus Ministry. He was an evangelical Christian who thought he could set the Catholic Church straight. He wasn’t annoying about it, but he made it clear he had his church. However, Delray loves music, so he joined the Mass choir.

Slowly, the Spirit started to work. He came to the director and me with questions about the Church. Many had to do with common misconceptions about the Catholicism. I spent hours in conversation with him. He knew his theology well, and I helped explain what Catholicism teachings actually are.

He continued to sing at Mass, and began to wish he were fully a part of it. He approached Ministry about joining the Catholic Church. At the time, we did not have an RCIA program on campus, so we sent him to a local parish. I attended the Easter Vigil when he completed his sacraments of initiation.

After graduation, he spent several years as a campus minister. I look back on all those hours discussing the Church, and I am privileged to have been part of his journey to the Catholic faith.
